Teeth Whitening Solutions – Finding what is right for you.
Tooth Whitening procedures can be a simple way to brigh
ten your smile and enhance your confidence. However, there are many “quick fix” solutions and discounted services that promise excellent results, but often fail to deliver long lasting results with minimal side effects. A potential patient had inquired through our contact form about the difference between a whitening procedure in our office and the whitening service offered at the Roseville Mall for $99.
Here was our answer to his whitening question:
1) At the Roseville Mall they don’t make any assessments as to the best product for a person’s individual situation like we do. They use the same product on everyone.
2) They use a “proprietary” solution that is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) However, this solution has not had the rigorous testing that even some of the over-the-counter products like Crest Strips has had. It is also not as concentrated or effective because of #3 below.
3) The “proprietary” solution does a wonderful job of dehydrating the teeth. The teeth appear white for about 2 days but then much of the color returns. A quality product will not dehydrate the teeth but has stronger “whitening” power.
4) I’ve watched how they apply the solution and they are not careful if it runs everywhere. The best products need to be placed meticulously onto the teeth and kept away from the soft tissues.
There will always be a demand for this type of cheap and fast service. However, you will get what you pay for – minimal quality and success.
Before you select a whitening method, take the following into consideration:
· Assessment – A professional dentist is always best suited to recommend tooth related products and services. If your primary concern is getting whiter teeth, but a secondary concern is crooked teeth, another option like porcelain veneers may be a better solution.
· Time – If you want your teeth whitened quickly, keep in mind that over the counter products take longer to deliver results and often can only achieve a few shades enhancement. In office whitening can be done in one visit, often just in one hour.
· Value – While over the counter products and discounted mall services may be less expensive, you get what you pay for. Paying a higher fee, but getting long lasting results is the key to value.
· Results – Getting tooth whitening services through a qualified dentist, you get a customized assessment for your smile, it can be done quickly, and your results are longer lasting. Also, dentists will be conscientious of your gums and soft tissue when performing your whitening procedure in order to minimize sensitivity.
Trying to find a tooth whitening solution that fits your schedule and your budget isn’t always easy. However, being educated about all of your options and not making impulse decisions will ensure you will be happier with the outcome. We use the best products available, charge a reasonable fee, and most importantly help people achieve the results that they want based upon their individual situation.
