Missing Teeth
Missing teeth can mar an otherwise beautiful smile. Replacing them can restore the natural beauty of your smile and protect you from more extensive dental problems and the need for more extensive dental work. Dr. Kleive can replace your missing teeth with beautiful artificial teeth that match the color of your natural teeth.
Benefits of Replacing Missing Teeth
Replacing missing teeth will allow you to chew comfortably again. It is an investment in your future dental health because it will protect you from damage:
- Teeth shifting out of alignment to fill the gap
- Bone tissue shrinking to fill the gap left by the missing tooth root
- A prematurely aged facial profile and jawline
- Tooth decay and loss
- Potential malnutrition if you have multiple missing teeth
- Gum shrinkage
- Gum disease
Patient Before and After: Missing Teeth
Before
After
Carole didn’t like the appearance of her smile, particularly a bridge that replaced a missing front tooth. We placed a new bridge and some new crowns and made her smile much more natural looking. View more patient images in our smile gallery.
Options for Replacing Missing Teeth
A missing tooth or teeth can be replaced with an artificial tooth or a bridge. The ideal anchor for an artificial tooth or bridge is a dental implant. A dental implant replaces your natural tooth root, preventing bone loss and gum shrinkage and keeping your artificial tooth or bridge in place without relying on surrounding teeth for support.
If you are not a good candidate for dental implants, or if you simply do not want dental implants, a bridge can be anchored to the surrounding healthy teeth with dental crowns. However, a bridge does not fill the gaps in the jawbone so it will not prevent bone shrinkage and loss.
